SWORDS: An Artist's Devotion
Here is some information about SWORDS: An Artist's Devotion.
"Swords" is a 96 page hardback book, published by Candlewick Press. It is suitable for ages 9 and up. Kids almost always love swords, but some of us never outgrow the fascination for this incredible weapon, so this is perfect material for adults. ;)
The densly illustrated book is about Knights, Kings, War Maidens, Ninja, Samurai, Eastern Masters, War Chiefs, and much more.
On sale date: September 9th 2008.
Soon, I'll follow up with the background story of how this book came about - In other words, I'll talk about how I left Blizzard North, found my Agent, and wound up being published by Candlewick Press. It has been an incredible adventure!

I can't wait for this book to go on sale! Also very cool that you will be at the BEA this year!
I can't wait for this book to go on sale, my friends and I are now counting down the days.
Sweet! Thank you for telling me. :)
Ben, Awesome book! It just jumped out at me from the library shelf. The illustrations sing of your devotion to the subject. I had a question. Its about one of the swords. Its in the Bronze Age section, third from the bottom. The one with the curved tip. Is that a composite sketch or is there a sword exactly like this one? What culture is it from?
Thanks
Thank you so kindly!
Yes, the sword in question is an actual sword, from Zealand (Denmark). I derived my sketch from another line-art sketch in a fabulous book - The Archaeology of Weapons, by Ewart Oakeshott (page 36). The sword is apparently cast in one piece, and is nearly a half inch thick!
Thank you so much for the comment!! :)
Be well,
Ben
Such a lovely book. The most inspiring book I have ever seen on swords. There has obviously been a lot of care and passion put into it and it shows in the remarkable pictures :)
